Shadow of Serpents: Ink by andybrase Shadow of Serpents: Ink by andybrase
Shadow of Serpents
Ink version
cover art for "Kull #3"
copyright Dark Horse Comics

Here's my ink line art for the cover to Kull #3... It was actually the second cover I did for the series, but fit better on the cover to the third issue.
I also did the full color for the final version printed on the comic.

Andy your work is amazing. Just curious, what kind of tools do you use? Is this mostly tech pen? How long does it take you to do a piece like this?

The realism of the snakes, the hatching on the scales... just amazing! And the wrinkles/details in the villains face are so well rendered, for lack of better words! I've stared at this one for awhile to try to figure out the hatching. I'm going to get eye strain from watching your work! :XD:

I love those glyphs! What kind of language is that? or is it made up?
I wanna tattoo that on my butt. Any links?

the magic symbols I created... they came straight from my head & weren't directly inspired by any real languages. Glad you like them:)

Andy, what size paper do you use? Standard 11X17, or do you use larger so you can get the line work as detailed as you do? I've heard the liks of Travis Charest use larger board, but your work and all the detail look like they require it.

This is phenomenal, btw...

Actually most of these cover type drawings, including this one, are on 11x17... my ink work is very tight.
thanx:)
