Dark Sun I: ink version

I've just been approved to post this:) Here's the ink version of my cover for IDW's new comic Dark Sun #1!
I also did the full color version, which will be coming soon, so keep an eye out.

Dark Sun is a dark, gritty fantasy world that was originally made famous by the paintings of Gerald Brom for the RPG books. (a spin off of D&D) I'm a big fan of the setting and I think this is my best fantasy art yet.

Here's some nice words from Brom on my Dark Sun art:
"Andy Brase's dynamic and dramatic imagery truly captures the spirit and savagery of Dark Sun."-Brom

This is out in the new "Previews", and due out in Jan 2011. So be sure to tell your comic shop to order the book asap! There is also a really cool cover from Wayne Reynolds and interior art by Peter Bergting. On a related note, my good friend Tyler Walpole is providing regular covers for IDW's D&D comic.

on all of this linework shading technique, are you using a straight edge or do you free hand these? specifically the lines say under the peck's (value 1) and the cross hatch in the arm pit shade (value 2) on the punching guy.

this is one of your best works so far!
and what's even more awesome about it, is that the guy with the mohawk is just identical to a friend of mine, who happens to have a mohawk, the same expression, to have a comic called "Black Sun" and draw in a style similar to yours (just without the inking and coloring), lol.... i showed him this deviation and he smiled wide open.... we ought to buy this comic!

Yeah, "Dark Sun" is a wicked setting... I recommend checking out some of the original paintings Brom did for Dark Sun and definitely look for the comic in Jan 2011!
