Dark Santa & Frosty the Headless Snowman

Here's a sketch I did over the holidays. I decided to tighten it up a little and add a background. I don't think I've done a sketch of Santa before and thought it might be fun. I hope everyone had a good start to the new year.

I'm looking at the stitches to the left of Frosty's carrot - they're implied only by their shadows and a tiny bit of negative space, yet each stitch thread has perfect dimension that you fill in unconsciously. I think "to draw this stitch I draw the outline of it, then shade it" but you've captured something closer to what the eye sees while still not losing a sense of illustrative flourish in overwrought realism. Not terrible insightful words for someone trained I'm sure, but being self-taught it's little things that inspire me to better my own skills.
